Joy Coyle: In a Day

If I had unlimited amounts of money, I would travel the world and photograph it all. That’s my dream.  Until my dreams come true, I will walk in the shoes of mobile photographers instead and see the world through their eyes.

We last spent a day in the wonderful company of  Anna Cox  in Kentucky.  Our travels now take us around the other side of the world and I am really excited to share with you a day spent with Joy Coyle from Papamoa, New Zealand.

Take a walk in her shoes for a day and see how things look through the lens of her iPhone.

I live in the seaside community of Papamoa in the Bay of Plenty, NewZealand. I retired this year after a long nursing career and I’m loving the opportunity this has given me to look after my wee grandson, while his parents are at work. I shoot almost exclusively with Hipstamatic and for this project I have chosen to use the ‘shake to randomize’ function for all my shots.

At this time of year here in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s summer, and my day usually starts at around 6.30am with a walk on the beach. Not much traffic on the only major road around here.

The beach is pretty quiet and peaceful at this time of day. Not many people around.

Kai is almost 2. I take him to his day care about 9am. Here he is buckled in the car, “click,” or as

he says “kik.”

This morning my husband and I are meeting some friends for coffee.  She’s a work colleague I haven’t seen for a while and the husbands are tagging along to talk ‘man talk’ while we catch up on the gos.

Hipstamatc Salvador lens makes this place look pretty cool.

Next stop the Post Shop. Gotta post our last minute Christmas mail. I’m a bit late this year!

We pick Kai up from day care on our way home. He helps me get the laundry off the clothes line once we’re home. Love this photo of him walking down the garden path in his little bare feet.

I love baking for my family, and these chocolate cup cakes probably won’t last long. We have a busy household, lots of people coming and going.

My husband’s cooking dinner tonight, and it’s Kai’s bedtime. His mother will be home soon and it’s almost time for me to put my feet up too.

The simple life of a Kiwi Nan.
