BP’s Introduction
What I love about about these photo social networks like Instagram, EyeEm, Starmatic etc, is the community. We have all been able to share and connect with like minded individuals and built relationships. Let me tell you about these two awesome folks. They both are amazing photographers in their own right. They really hone their craft and you really can see the progression and striving for “more” in their work. What I love about these two, is not only that they are amazing photographers, but I consider them friends. Friends who encourage, support, share, and connect with me.
Joanna D. (Jo) and I have been friends on the networks for quite awhile. Like many of us starting out (well at least for me) I experimented with many “styles.” I started out with the blown out color saturated extra filtered HDR 100%ing of an image and called it good. It was that app experimentation that led me to the simple, minimal monochrome. I felt that it represented my story more. I met Jo through this beginning stage. She was not only one of the queen of monochromes on IG, but she was also a master hashtagger before they came down and limited hashtags on IG. We connected. She encouraged my “walk into the darkside.” I fell in love with her work and she, along with Ryan Coleman and Anna Cox, really influenced my “style” and using the BW.
Bridgette (B) and I met on one of Seattle’s big photowalks. It was before Igers Seattle was actually formal. Mellow and I organized a photowalk (which we called a “shootout”) at the waterfront and we challenged Heidi and Philadelphia to a scavenger hunt. B was one of about 30 people and you could already tell that she was going to be one of Igers main organizers (which she is). We were at a bar/restauraunt afterwards, and she was the one who was saying to everyone, “we should really get hooked up with the main Igers (Phil Gonzalez) group.” So we did, and a year later, the Igers community has grown with folks organizing their own photowalks from Tacoma to Seattle. Oh did I tell you that she’s also a Hipstamatic queen.
Well enough of my thoughts, let’s let them show you how amazing they are. Both of them will help us see what they see as we take a walk across the pond with them.
A walk along my favourite beach by Joanna
I live quite close to the beach but I don’t normally visit during the summer. I like to avoid the chaos that accompanies the tourist season. I love it most in the autumn and if you were here with me, we would walk together and this is what we might see…….
Deck chairs are not in much need from autumn onwards so they are chained up till spring.
But what you can appreciate at the moment is the addition of ‘The world’s largest deck chair’. Take a seat and enjoy the view!
Kite surfers populate the beach and the view is filled with them soaring on the breeze. It’s such a sight
In the autumn through till spring, dog walkers can use the beach. This sweet dog was chasing fluff in the wind and was making everyone laugh because he looked like a big ol’ ball of fluff himself!
Open spaces are perfect for local children. Wrap up warm and have some fun!
A walk along the marina by Bridgette
The last couple of days have been rainy and stormy but today turned out to be a beautiful, autumn day in Seattle.
I dropped off lil guy at preschool and decided to take a walk along the marina for some fresh air and to clear my head.
This is one of my special places, not too far from home.
I just love the tall sails… the way they line up and disappear in the distance. I can sit there for hours just staring out to infinity…
I keep walking along the docks and peek through the door… the word PRIVATE staring me right in the face…
As I move along, I notice a boat being hauled up for repairs about to be taken to the shop right behind me…
I decide to keep walking onto the pier to see if anyone is there…
And that’s when I see this fisherman, just sitting there. Guess I was super quiet because he didn’t even notice I was standing there watching him…
By the time I walked back past him he still hadn’t caught anything. He didn’t sound too optimistic but remained cheerful, grinning as I wished him good luck.
Oh and by the way, as much as I love the sea, I’m not a swimmer which is why I thought snapping this pic would be appropriate… ; ]
I head back to the car and gaze out once again, admiring the boats alongside the dock…
Maybe one day I’ll have a boat of my own…
So when you visit Seattle, I’ll be sure to bring you here. I’m certain you’ll love it as much as I do… til next time… xoxo b.
